Bad Weather in Dallas
FishingThis is about the third bad storm we have had in the last month. Right now the winds are gusting enough to make my fence bend and the rain is going sideways. Weather.com shows the wind as gusting to 24 mph but it looks more like it's in the 50 mph range.
I'm getting kind of sick of this weather, and I'm really not much of a tornado person. Living in Tornado Alley is getting old. There was a Tornado 2 weeks ago in flower mound about 12 miles from where I live a couple weeks ago.
There is one good thing about this weather though, bass fishing picks up quite a bit before a storm and it's one of my favorite times to go fishing. The picture below is of a bass I caught earlier today (the bass lying next to the bait casting reel) which was between 4-5 pounds.. The other picture is of a fish a friend caught. Only caught about 4 fish total but they were all decent sized.
Both of the fish pictured above were caught on chatterbaits. One was a red and white Original Chatter Bait with about half the weight skirt being dipped in Chartreuce Spike It Dip-n-Glo (crawfish flavor), the other was a black Gambler Chatter Bait. Both chatterbaits had white/pepper Yum Craw Bug trailers, with the tentacles being dipped in the Dip-n-glo.
The other 2 fish were caught on Waveworm's Tiki Sticks. The tiki sticks used were 5" and we have had a lot of luck with the Christmass Tree, Watermelon Red Flake, and pumpkin seed colors, all dipped in Spike It Dip-N-Glo.
I'm sure your noticing that I dip almost anything in Spike It this time of year. That is because bass are still on their spawing beds and the crawfish scent can make for a much harder reaction strike from the fish.
I don't limit myself to dipping worms to spawn, though. I find that I catch much more fish on Watermelon Red Flake with a yellow dipped tail as opposed to the worms that I didn't dip.
