I hate myspace

General

So I was looking at Tom's profile today, plotting on how to kill him and all the people who still think he has anything to do with myspace now days (im not really plotting to kill him, by the way. sad that I have to clarify that these days.)...

It makes me mad when i see people commenting on Tom's profile "i can't believe you made myspace by yourself and still run it by yourself"... god I want to slap a bitch every time I see those comments.

I never noticed that when you post a blog and it shows what your currently listening to or what your currently playing, it is a REFERRAL link to amazon.com... I'm sure the cookie lasts something like a week at least, so I wonder how much money myspace makes off amazon sales? Is this something that came about after myspace was sold or when it was still just a evil start up?

I really hate Tom and Chris DeWolfe. Their rich and I'm not. It doesn't stop there, I also hate Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and almost everyone else who has been really successful on the internet.. I don't really hate Bill Gates though. I don't know why. Maybe because Bill Gates was making money before I knew what money was, and really isn't "successful on the internet".

My monthly "I hate you bastard" is still Mercora because they have had a great product for a long time but they can't market it to save their ass's and the novelty of their product is going away.

Well I am actually going to stop hating Tom now. It's not his fault he was nominated as Myspace's puppet. It must suck to leave/sell a company but still be stuck "virtually" stuck there. I wonder how many times a day Tom visits "his profile" and see's how much of a sell out his virtual self is?

I get annoyed by Myspace's success too. I created an account there one time to see what all the hype was about, and it is a real bag of ass. That said, I would still love to have even a tiny fraction of their user base.

Is it wrong that I wish I was on your hate list?

I hate myspace as well. It's hard to use! But everyone and their brother has one. But it's retarded because no one even uses their space, they just have one because it's what all the cool kids are doing. I've tried so hard to get everyone on InstantSpot instead. I think as soon as everyone sees the light then they will come over here.

I think as we add more friend-features, that will be a draw for the myspace types. Since we have a captive audience on this thread, we have a new feature under development. What would you think about the right side of your My Friends page being a place where any of your friends could post messages with most recent messages at the top? Do you guys have any thoughts that might influence our development there?

I sure hope you are right Wendy. What kind of response are you getting when you try to sway people over to the 'Spot?

The ONLY negative response I get is "but my friends are on myspace." I think if their friends were on here, then they would all be on here. Myspace is for kids, InstantSpot is for adults!

I think we need some sort of messages system on here where you can leave a generalized message instead of having to reply solely to the blogs.

Also, how many friends are allowed on the friends page?

There is currently no limit on friends. That may change over time, but for now it is open.

I think I will bring this up as a topic on the forums and send an email out asking for input.

I like the idea of the commenting on the side on the friend page. There's been a couple times that I
have wanted to say something to people on instantpot but didn't want to just post on an actual blog entry

Dave has already eluded to it, but we have started our development on adding in the "social" features of a social network. If you guys have any cool ideas now is the time to let us know.

I think the friends only forum/guestbook kinda thing will be a big step in that direction. There are also a few other little tricks up our sleeves for some really cool interactivity.

Live Chat? What about links to chat with each other using Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo, MSN...? Plus have pages that only the friends can see, more personal information that you don't want the entire world to see.

I really think you guys should do the latest blogs thing when a member logs in. When they log in they will see the latest blog posts made by people they have spotted. I believe I posted something about this is the forum, but a good example of this would be Technorati. When you favorite blogs, you get the latest posts from your favorited blogs, ordered by freshness.

Doing that would make members login more frequently. Members logging in more frequently would cause them to post more blogs. More blogs, more traffic, more sign ups.

Oh, I also edited this post with a picture done by Rob Dobi. I tried finding the picture on his site so I could just link there but it looks like Dobi isn't the Dobi from 2001 and has gone professional so this picture isn't displayed there. www.Dobi.nu

I originally was going to use an image from a forum I frequent which shows Tom sitting in front of that chalkboard, but there is a big guy thrusting him from behind. Seemed appropriate but I couldn't find it.
