Will they be found alive?

General

I hate watching the news because now all I will be able to think about, until they are found alive or deceased, is how there are 2 guys stuck on Mt. Hood.. I just went and got a glass of water and almost felt guilty for sticking my glass into my refrigerator and getting a cold glass of water instead of having to melt snow like they are having to do if they are still a live. I don't want to be a pessimist, but it's hard to believe that if they are bunkered down in a snow cave somewhere that they wouldn't have come out of it today to try and decend. It will be interesting to see at what point the recently found climber had passed away. Was it today, yesterday, or a week ago shortly after he made that phone call? I really hope these guys are found alive tomorrow. If they are found dead, they knew the risks of what they did. I know they took the chance to die, and if they are found dead I will not feel sorry for them, as I would not feel sorry for evil knieval if he nosed dived his bike into an 18 wheeler.

The thing I want to know is WHY in 2006, would you be out climbing in winter without GPS or some sort of locator? Going prepared is common sense, and GPS in 2006 should be a no brainer. Only one of them was carrying a GPS enabled cell phone which is probably out of battery or broken. Personally I would carry a stand alone GPS device that someone could use to track my location, and that wouldn't be part of a cell phone which would unnecisarily drain the battery.

Okay I'm done.

Personally I think they are nuts to be in the snow in the first place! Snow is all good from a distance.
