PHPizabi got jacked

General

Today I went to check up on PHPizabi and see how the project was going. I went to PHPizabi.com and was greeted with this short note:

To the PHPizabi Community,

In early 2005, I hired Claude Desjardins of Reality Medias to code a personal website of mine. I wanted to build the best community type site that could be built. After a few months of development Claude and I agreed to become 50/50 partners in the project known later as PHPizabi. Our Mission was to provide the best free software that people could use to start there own communities.

In Novemeber 2006 Claude decided that a partnership was no longer in his interest and removed my administrative access to all of PHPizabi. Using excuses as reason to satisfy his greed and arrogance with blatent disreagard for the premises and legal grounds of a partnership.

My legal counsel advised that one plan of action could be to start my own branch of PHPizabi. I have contemplated the idea of releasing the software under GPL.

This matter is pending legal action against Claude Desjardens, Reality Medias and any person acting on the behalf of PHPizabi and or Reality Medias in regards to this matter.

PHPizabi.net is still up and running but it is unclear if Alicia will ever be released. It looks like Claude decided to take PHPizabi and run, I wouldn't be surprised if Alicia is released in the near future under a totally different branding.

If you are thinking about installing or running PHPizabi, DON'T. There are much better alternatives that are not run by a thief. Boonex Dolphin is one great alternative. PHPizabi Alicia does look like it may have some promise, but remember just by using their software you are supporting this guy's bad faith. Also, what if you installed the software and later had to uninstall the software or pay more money to keep running the software? Or if you had to start over from scratch?

I'd really like to hear Mr. Desjardens side of the story here..I'm off to send him an email, I will report back with what I hear. I just hope Jeff Kipp has a good Attorney / Lawyer.

Thank you for your post.

I am looking into using this software but I don't understand what is going on here. Who owns PHPizabi now and what role do you play with all this?

Like you said, I don't want to get mixed up with an illegal or dropped piece of software - but PHPizabi seems to met my needs better than Drupal, PHPFox, HandShakes, Dolphin, etc..

Also, who is speaking in the quoted post?

Thank you

I'm his partner at MadCow Medias and we're going to release a stable phpizabi distribution soon. R's greed is going to take him down and he can stick his izabi and the money that Jeff paid him up his ...

I wanted to stress the importance that the story be fully explained, up to version *4 of phpizabi, Jeff does own, version 844 and 848 were coded without jeff, or his knowledge, they are under complete ownership, legally of reality medias, I also find it important to stress that under a patent search for phpizabi, phpizabi comes up under ownership of reality medias, and not madcow medias, therefore, "legally" no matter what story you hear, the owner is what the law says.

I also find it important to point out that phpizabi was a project continued by reality as a free release to the public, because jeff (blackbook) couldnt afford to pay reality for his private code. It would be like me developing this website, and not being paid for my coding time, sorry, you dont pay, its not yours.

i been with phpizabi from the start and Jarrod your 100% wrong.Jeff was there for version 4 and they where partners. Reality locked jeff out long after Version 4 was out just because he didn't like how jeff was doing things but you can't just kick a partner out. There are law u have to go by and jeff is 100% right it is half his script

Sorry guys but I think the best way to avoid conflicts like this is to release under LGPL, GPL, Apache, etc. Licences on SourceForge because it would secure the code.
