TigerDirect Story

General

Okay, that tigerdirect.com post reminded me of something. A friend of mine was browsing tigerdirect's website a couple years ago and they had posted some hardcore server router's on the site for $0.00.... I guess there was a new guy working and he didn't know the price, so he posted and then went to go ask his boss the price... Anyways, my friend ordered 8 of these things (they are worth $2,000+ apiece) for the price of 0 dollars and 0 cents, pays a crapload of shipping, and 2 weeks later he gets these at his house. No Joke... they sent them. So he has $16,000 worth of routers sitting in the spare bedroom trying to figure out what to do with them. Tigerdirect calls and says their has been a mistake and he has to send them back. He tells them no he paid for them..

2 days later UPS shows up at his door and tells him they are there to pick up some packages for tigerdirect. He doesn't give them to UPS. Tigerdirect calls and asks why he didn't allow UPS to pick up the packages, he says he paid for them.

Tiger direct sends UPS again to pick up the packages but my friend doesn't give them up.

He doesn't hear from tigerdirect for 5 months, by which time he has sold all but 1 of the routers on ebay.

They tell him they are suing him for the $16,000 unless he returns all the routers to them. He tells them to eat shit.

This case is still ongoing but tiger direct is suing him out of Florida and he has had to spend about $6000 thus far to keep them entertained.

I will post exact model numbers and go buy and take a picture of the remaining router sitting in his spare bedroom. It's hilarious seeing a router like this just sitting on a desk.

I can also post some pictures of the order receipt and court documents tomorrow.

Anyways... I feel it's tigerdirects fault for shipping them and they need to just write it off as a loss and move on... Discuss.

If tigerdirect didn't have anything on their site's legal notices (or whatever you call them protecting them from price misprints, then I say they SHOULD just write it off and forget about it.

Vaguely related: TigerDirect does LOTS of rebates. For the larger ones, they useOnRebate.com for processing. Back in June or July I bought some stuff from TD with lots of rebates. Checks have been dribbling in. Two checks arrived a few days ago, and my wife deposited them. A couple of days later, two more checks arrived, and my wife deposited them. Then I got an email from OnRebate saying (paraphrasing), "Oops, sorry, two too many rebate checks, the second two are going to bounce if you deposit them, and you'll get hit with fees from your bank." I am livid. I will do what I can to force OnRebate to reimburse me for the fees, but they are big, I am not, and I expect to get screwed...
