New Sites

General

Bryce and I have started talking about making a resource site for instantspot.com as Dave suggested.. We drew up a quick, big, web 2.0 layout and will probably launch it within a month or so, just in case instantspot really takes off. It will be a symbiotic relationship because having resources for this site will encourage more unique blogs, and the unique blogs will encourage the viewers to start blogging here themselves. More users for instantspot, an audience for us, and hopefully lots of ad clicks ;-)

We are also working on a dating site for anglers using anti-marketing design techniques (making a site look bad, on purpose, so as to look un-corporate and to build trust with the users).. we want to come off as anglers who just want to help anglers, not web designers looking for $$$, so we will see how things go with that. Hopefully it will be a quick flip.

I also saw someone on instantspot posting about "give a click". This is against google adsense terms and if google comes accross that your account will be banned and your accounts balance flushed. The directory page also has text saying "support the spot" amd "keep spot free" and ads below it, this is also against google adsense terms of use ( https://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms?hl=en_US ). If instantspot has their account banned, things wont be good. You can change the text to say "advertisers" or "sponsors" and be within the TOS.

anyways, just wanted to make a post.

I just finally noticed your angler dating site (via a link in netnoob's Spot) and it made me wonder...Have you had much success building this type of community then flipping it? Or is this a first shot at that kind of thing?

This would be the first shot. There is a competitor in this niche and we are hoping that he doesn't want to compete with a free site. We started this as actually a way to get into the real dating scene by building it as a niche dating site, then slowly convert to mainstream dating site after we had a large user base. Most people try to start a dating site from scratch, that doesn't really work, starting a niche site gives you an actual chance. I see it like this, if you take a baby bass and throw it in a pond, it's probably going to get eaten by the other bass, but if you let it grow in a large fish tank before throwing it in the pond, it will be too big for the other bass to eat it. It may not grow to be as big as the other bass, but they sure as hell aren't going to eat it ;-)

Hopefully, though, this is the start of flipping sites for us. I wouldn't mind being an internet realtor.
